Stanly County Partners In Health brings back Golden Shoe event

After a two-year absence, Stanly County Partners in Health is bringing back the Golden Shoe event.

March 12-25, Stanly County Partners in Health will hide 200 gold painted and tagged shoes in local parks. Community members of all ages are invited to hunt for the golden shoes.

Every shoe is a winner of a reward, however, limit one shoe per person.

Bring the shoe and tag to the prize claim day at City Lake Park 10 a.m.-noon March 26 to receive a prize. While there, check out the Albemarle Parks and Recreation Kite Workshop.
Golden Shoe parks include: Stanfield, Oakboro, Norwood, Badin, New London, City Lake, Rock Creek, Chuck Morehead and Richfield. This is a free event.

Since 2009, the Stanly County Partners in Health coalition has staged the Golden Shoe event to encourage Stanly County residents to be physically active and to utilize the recreational parks in the county. The Golden Shoe event is popular with people of all ages, from toddlers to seniors, and encourages families to get out and play. In 2019, 100 percent of participants who claimed prizes indicated they are likely to continue visiting their local park.

Businesses or organizations who would like to contribute a prize can contact Wendy Growcock at Stanly County Health Department at 704-986-3010.
