Two South softball players named to NFCA All-Region team

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association recently released its selections for All-Region teams for the 2023-24 high school softball season.

Two Stanly players, Mary-Ryne Hinson and Cassidy Smith, were nominated to the Region VII First Team which covers North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Florida and Tennessee.

Hinson, who played second base for South Stanly, finished this season with a .431 batting average and an OPS (on-base plus slugging) mark of 1.192 with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs and 18 RBIs.

Smith, a third baseman, led the Bulls in batting average (.446), doubles (5), home runs (5), RBIs (24) and OPS (1.339).

The Bulls finished 14-4 this season, reaching the third round of the NCHSAA 1A state playoffs.
