A person who worked closely with a current representative in the North Carolina General Assembly won his party’s nomination for the seat in the 67th House District in Tuesday’s primary.

Cody Huneycutt, who worked with Rep. Wayne Sasser (R-Stanly) and others in the General Assembly for eight years, won the Republican nomination for the seat, running against Stanly commissioner Brandon King.

Huneycutt received 9,089 votes in Stanly and Montgomery counties while King received 4,953 votes. Huneycutt received 63.7% of Stanly’s votes (6,906) and 68.2% in Montgomery (2,183) while King received 36.3% in Stanly (3,935) and 31.8% in Montgomery (1,018).

“I’m honored that the people of Stanly and Montgomery counties would put their faith and trust in me to represent them,” Huneycutt said. “I am eager to go to work for them in the upcoming general election, and I look forward to serving them in Raleigh. I would like to wish Brandon King and his family well.”

King said he wanted to “wish Mr. Huneycutt the best wishes. He has my full support in the November election.”

Huneycutt will face Democrat Daniel Quick of Badin in the general election.
