Colts volleyball downed by Tigers, bounce back with wins

The West Stanly volleyball season continued with three recent matchups, including two Rocky River Conference matches.
Mount Pleasant 3, West Stanly 2
On Sept. 26, the Colts and the Tigers took undefeated records into a conference showdown between the two rivals in Mount Pleasant.
The Tigers won the second and third sets before West fought back to force a fifth set. The difference in the final set was just four points as Mount took the match 3-2.
Scores of the match were 21-25, 25-10, 25-16, 18-25 and 15-11 in favor of the Tigers.
Dani Moss led West with 14 kills while Kayli Cleaver and Madison Kee each added 10 kills. Addie Barbee had three of the Colts’ four aces and Caylee Clayton posted 28 of West’s 70 digs. Cleaver and Moss each also had a block.
Trinity Bolt led Mount with 20 kills while Maili Weems added 12 kills for the Tigers.
West Stanly 3, Forest Hills 0
A day after losing to the Tigers, West went back on the road to Marshville to sweep the Yellow Jackets to move to 6-1 in RRC play. Scores of the match were 25-16, 25-15 and 25-13.
Moss led with eight of West’s 32 kills while Addie Barbee was the top server for the Colts with six of the team’s 17 aces. Riley Barbee reached double figures with 10 of West’s 28 digs.
Emma Baucom led Forest Hills with six kills.
West Stanly 3, Central Cabarrus 0
Stepping out of conference play Monday, the Colts improved to 15-5 overall with a 3-0 sweep of the 3A Vikings with scores of 25-11, 25-19 and 25-18.
Raelee Furr led West with 10 kills while Cleaver and Madison Kee added seven kills each. As a team, West had 37 kills. Furr added four of the Colts’ 11 aces while Moss had seven of West’s 16 digs. Addie Barbee paced the offense with 29 of West’s 41 assists.
