What do you want the City of Albemarle to look like 20 years from now?
Residents will have the chance to help shape the city’s future during two public meetings at City Hall on Jan. 30. The first meeting will be 10-11:30 a.m., and the second will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Both meetings will cover the same material, so participants only need to attend one.
“Community input is essential to creating a land use plan that reflects what residents need and care about most,” Albemarle Planning and Development Director Kevin Robinson said. “Your ideas will help improve the city’s decisions and make Albemarle an even better place to live, work and grow. When the community shapes the plan, it ensures Albemarle’s future is guided by shared goals and priorities.”
The event will give residents a hands-on opportunity to share their thoughts on residential and business growth, city services and amenities and where new roads should be built to improve connectivity throughout the city.
This effort is part of updating the City of Albemarle’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, known as Envision Albemarle 2045. The plan is a 20-year strategic document adopted by local officials to guide the long-term development and use of land within the city. The Envision Albemarle 2045 plan will shape the city’s growth by aligning physical development with Albemarle’s social, environmental and economic goals.
A land use plan typically includes key elements such as land use, transportation, housing, public facilities, environmental protection, economic development and community involvement.
Over the past three months, the city’s Planning and Development Department, along with a volunteer steering committee, has been gathering community feedback through neighborhood meetings and a survey available at www.albemarlenc.gov/future.
