Sheriff’s office ends search for armed suspect in Cottonville area

The search for a suspect in an alleged breaking and entering incident in the Cottonville area has been completed.

According to Sheriff Jeff Crisco, a white, female suspect, who was the alleged lookout for a home invasion, is in custody.

On Thursday at approximately 7 p.m., the sheriff’s office arrested 60-year old Shelton Blakeney for felonious breaking and entering, assault by pointing a gun and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Crisco said the female suspect suspected of assisting in the robbery ran after an attempted traffic stop. The pursuit went into Anson County, where the suspect suffered a car accident and was injured. She was taken to Atrium Health Main in Charlotte for precautionary reasons.

The female suspect, whose name has not been released yet, will be returned to Stanly County to face charges.
