Fifteen talented cosmetology students at Stanly Community College recently reached a significant career milestone, celebrating the completion of 1,500 contact hours with a special pinning ceremony.
Held at the Morton-Moffitt Cosmetology Center on SCC’s Albemarle campus, the event gathered faculty, staff, family and friends to recognize these future beauty professionals’ dedication and hard work.
Throughout their training, students gained hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge in key areas of cosmetology, including professional imaging, hair design, chemical processes, skin care, nail care, multicultural practices, business principles, and product knowledge. Under the guidance of instructors David Smith, Nicole Flake, Linda Hatley and Heather Britt, they developed technical skills, creativity and a strong work ethic that will serve them in their careers.
During the ceremony, each student received a symbolic pin, signifying their readiness to enter the beauty industry professionally and confidently.
“Watching these students grow into skilled professionals has been incredibly rewarding,” said David Smith, head of the cosmetology program. “We look forward to seeing their talents shine in the beauty industry.”
Each year, SCC prepares 60-70 students for the State Board of Cosmetic Arts examination. Upon passing, graduates become licensed cosmetologists in North Carolina.
High school students interested in pursuing cosmetology can jump-start their careers through SCC’s Career and College Promise (CCP) program, which offers tuition-free classes on the Albemarle campus.
In addition to education, SCC’s Cosmetology program provides salon services to the public, allowing students to gain real-world experience under the supervision of experienced instructors.
