In August 1945, D.C. Almond, Carl Palmer and Carl Palmer Jr. purchased the 19Taxi Station and renamed it Yellow Top Cabs. On Jan. 17, 1947, ads for Palmer’s Taxi, located on East Main Street, begin to appear in the local paper. The 1947 City Directory confirms that Carl Palmer and his son were the operators of this business. Palmer’s Taxi had the same phone number that had been associated with Yellow Top Cabs and Yellow Top is not listed in the directory. Its name, however, does later reappear. In April 1947, Palmer’s Taxi was purchased by E.N. Betts and the new business became Terminal Cabs. Just a few months later in June, a SNAP article mentions that Terminal Cabs had been purchased by Bob’s Taxi. An ad in the same paper, however, said that Bob’s had purchased the cabs and equipment of Yellow Top Cabs. Exactly what happened is not clear. Today’s picture, courtesy of Jason Palmer, shows his great-grandfather, Carl Palmer, Sr. and his Yellow Top Cabs. {Lewis Bramlett – Stanly County Historical Society}
