Albemarle women reach Elite Eight with lopsided home win versus Uwharrie Charter

The Albemarle women’s basketball team met an old conference foe Tuesday night in the third round of the 2025 NCHSAA 1A state playoffs.

Uwharrie Charter, the No. 6 seed in the West, took on the Bulldogs for the second time this season after losing at home 67-20 to Albemarle on Nov. 22, 2024.

Senior guard Amari Baldwin continued her ascent up the state record books in career points as the Bulldogs opened with a 10-1 run and never looked back, beating the Eagles 79-35.

Baldwin led Albemarle (25-4) with 26 points, giving her 2,414 career points. Jordyn Crump connected four times from the outside to score 12 for the Bulldogs, while Jasmine Brown also scored 10 for the hosts.

Kayla Brown and Lainey Thomas scored 10 points each to lead Uwharrie Charter (21-8).

After opening with a run, Albemarle led 22-11 after one quarter and 42-24 at halftime. In the third, Albemarle pulled away, outscoring the Eagles 19-10.

The Bulldogs make the long trek across the state Friday night to take on No. 2 Cherokee (25-2). The Braves demolished No. 7 Christ The King at home Tuesday night 108-28.
