South Stanly men’s basketball opens playoffs at home tonight

The South Stanly men’s basketball team earned a home playoff game tonight at 6 in the opening round of the 2025 North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) state tournament.

South Stanly is the No. 10 seed in the 1A Western Region, earning the top 1A seed from the Yadkin Valley Conference finishing second overall in the regular-season standings to Mount Pleasant.

The Bulls (16-8) host the No. 23 seeded Avery County Vikings (14-11). The Vikings finished fifth overall in the split 1A/2A Western Highlands Conference and are 3-3 in the team’s last six games.

The Bulls are led by 2024-25 YVC Player of the Year Gavyn Miller, who was honored after Friday’s YVC Tournament Finals. Miller is averaging 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and one block per game this season for the Bulls.
