Stanly wrestlers qualify for NCHSAA state finals tourney

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association will host the 2025 wrestling state finals tournament this Friday.

Several wrestlers representing Stanly schools have qualified for the state finals.

1A Wrestling

At 113 pounds, South Stanly freshman Broad Baird (22-13) qualified for the state finals, finishing fourth at the eastern regionals. Baird will take on junior Adair Panama (47-4), the No. 1 seed out of the West, in the first round.

Kaiden Dahle, a junior at South, was the No. 1 seed in the East regionals. Dahle (31-6) takes on East Surry’s Colten Vestal (36-9), the No. 4 seed from the West.

Another South wrestler, Ikey Holt (33-1), won the 1A East Regionals and qualified for the state finals. Holt’s first-round matchup will be the No. 4 seed from the West, Hayesville sophomore Mason Ray (30-7).

South’s fourth wrestler to qualify for the state finals, senior Michael Huneycutt, finished fourth at the East regionals at 165 pounds. Huneycutt (29-4) faces the 1A West Region champion, Avery County senior Kenneth Pritz (45-0), in the first round.

Albemarle will have one wrestler represent the Bulldogs at the state finals. Vincent Gregory at 175 pounds finished fourth in the regionals. The Bulldog senior (34-7) will face Mount Airy junior Andrew Meadows (35-0) in the first round.

2A Wrestling

The West Stanly Colts qualified four wrestlers for the men’s and women’s state tournaments, while North Stanly qualified two wrestlers in the men’s tourney.

At 106 pounds in the men’s tourney, West freshman Dax Osborne finished second at the 2A Midwest regionals. Osborne (41-11) will take on junior Judah Robinson (23-17), the No. 3 seed from the Mideast Region.

Sawyer Griffin, wrestling at 113 pounds, finished fourth at the regionals. The Colt junior (40-9) will face Joseph Maples of South Lenoir (30-8).

North Stanly sophomore, Nash Mullis (37-7), won the 2A Midwest Regional in the 215 pound weight class. Mullis will take on senior Jack Ewell (19-2) of Ayden-Grifton.

Another North sophomore, Josian McCowan (31-9), finished fourth at regionals and qualified for the state tournament. He will face senior Connor Ridgell of Wilkes Central (39-1) in the first round.

In the women’s wrestling tourney, which combines all four classifications, junior Cheyenne Bramhall (33-4) finished third at the Midwest regionals. Bramhall will take on Heide Trask’s Lauren Hall (22-1) in the first round.

At 165 pounds, Felicity Hereim won the Midwest regionals for West Stanly. The Colt junior (31-5) will face Rae Thrower (21-8) of Pinecrest.
