No Stanly County high school has had more basketball players cross the 1,000-point career plateau than North Stanly.
Thursday night saw the Comets’ program add another name to the banner when senior guard Jack Williamson scored 14 in North Stanly’s 72-67 home non-conference win versus North Rowan.
The senior was 7-of-12 from inside the three-point arc and had a double-double with 14 boards in the win. He also had five blocks, four steals and four assists.
Williamson becomes the 12th men’s basketball player and 27th overall for North Stanly to score 1,000 career points.
He broke the barrier early in the first quarter at the 6:06 mark. After getting the ball off a deflection, the senior went the length of the court, did a backwards spin move and scored.
Breaking the 1,000-point plateau meant a lot to him, Williamson said, adding “all of the hard work and dedication has led me here, and it’s paying off. This milestone isn’t possible without my teammates and coaches believing in me 100% of the time, so a big thanks to them.”
Williamson also credited former North Stanly standout Luke Gibson and Perfect 10 Basketball “for transforming my game and making 1,000 points even possible.”
Comets head coach George Walker said he was “so proud of Jack reaching 1,000 points…he has worked hard and put many hours into getting to this point.”
Jalen Walker led North (13-1) with 18 points, including 6-of-10 from the field and 6-of-9 at the foul line. Ben Williamson added 13 points for the Comets in the win.
The Comets enter the week ranked fifth in the 2A West standings, and host South Stanly Tuesday before heading to Mount Pleasant Friday.
