Stanly Board of Education swears in members, names chair, vice chair

The Stanly County Board of Education named a new chair and vice chair while swearing in one new member and four incumbents at the December board meeting.

School board attorney Mark Lowder swore in new school board member Meghan Almond along with incumbents Glenda Gibson, Carla Poplin, Bill Sorensen and Vicky Watson.

Board member Glenda Gibson nominated Robin Whittaker to be the board chair and the board unanimously voted for her.

For vice chair, board member Vicky Watson nominated fellow member Dustin Lisk for the position. The board unanimously voted for Lisk.

The school board also announced which board members would serve on the different committees.

Gibson will chair the Capital Improvement Planning committee with Lisk and Watson serving on it, while the curriculum and instruction committee will be chaired by Sorensen. Almond and Poplin will also be on the instruction committee.

Lisk will continue to serve as the chair for the finance committee, with Gibson and Watson serving on it, and Almond will chair the policy committee, as Poplin and Sorensen will serve on it.

Poplin will chair the personnel committee, with Almond and Sorensen on it, and Watson will chair the safety and security committee. Gibson and Lisk will also serve on the safety committee.
