West Stanly women sweep basketball series with North Stanly

The West Stanly women’s basketball team entered Tuesday’s road game having won three of the team’s first four games.

Included in the early schedule was a win at home versus North Stanly, ending a 10-game losing streak to the Comets.

The Colts (4-1) went on an 11-4 run early in Tuesday’s rematch at North (3-2), ending a three-game active win streak for the Comets with a 51-39 win.

Kennedy Foxx led West with 15 points, including three made 3-pointers, while Grayson Howell added 14.

Shymani Baslan led North with 12 points while Allie Morgan added eight.

West led 16-6 after one quarter, but the Comets cut the lead to five midway through the second quarter, 16-11.

North’s Lexie Brown cut the deficit to one, 21-20, with 2:45 left in the first half.

A corner 3-pointer from Raygan Gainey and a layup from Brynli Huneycutt in the final minute of the period pushed the Colts’ advantage to seven at halftime, 28-21.

West pushed the lead to 12 in the first three minutes of the third quarter and led by the same margin after the end of the period, 40-28.

The Colts built a lead as much as 21 points in the fourth quarter en route to the win.
