West Stanly women’s basketball ends losing streak to North Stanly

The West Stanly women’s basketball team had not beaten county rival North Stanly since sweeping the Comets the first two games of the 2019-20 season.

West opened a big second-quarter lead and never trailed after that point, ending the losing streak to North at home Friday night 43-31.

After the game was tied 7-7 midway through the first, the Colts ended the quarter on a 13-0 run to lead 20-7 after one.

North trailed at halftime, 28-13, but outscored the Colts in the third quarter to trail after three quarters 31-24.

The Comets got to within five in the fourth, but West pushed the lead back out to seven and hit free throws down the stretch for the game’s final margin.

Grayson Howell led West with 15 points while Kennedy Foxx added 10 for West (2-1) including 4-of-4 at the free-throw line in the fourtth quarter.

Shymani Baskins led North (1-1) with 10 points.
