As the high school women’s basketball season opened this past week, one Albemarle senior point guard has the chance to set records both for her school and the county.

Bulldogs senior Amari Baldwin and her teammates opened the season with three lopsided victories as the senior looks to challenge both the school and county records for career points scored.

With three wins this past week, Baldwin has 1,779 career points and trails Albemarle High School women’s basketball all-time scorer Akela Baldwin by 26 points (1,805). She trails the all-time women’s basketball leader, South Stanly’s Latoya Wilson, by 263 points (2,042), and the county’s all-time leader in men’s and women’s basketball, North Stanly’s Bryson Childress (2,187), by 408 points.

Albemarle opened the season last Tuesday at 3A Sun Valley and won 58-20, with Baldwin scoring 31 points. Jordyn Crump added 10 points while Jasmine Brown added eight.

One day later, the Bulldogs hosted West Stanly and won 72-28, with Baldwin scoring 31 points and Brown adding 11.
