West Stanly entered Friday’s road game against former conference rival Mount Pleasant looking for its first win of the season and first for new head coach Ralph Jackson.

However, the host Tigers took an early lead and never trailed, earning a 42-0 win over the Colts.

A disastrous third quarter for West (0-5) saw the Tigers outscore the Colts 29-0, forcing a running clock throughout the fourth quarter.

The Tigers (4-1) took the opening kickoff and marched 64 yards down the field to take an early 7-0 lead, then added on its second drive a 39-yard swing pass for a score. Mount led 13-0 with 4:42 left in the first quarter.

West’s best drive of the half got the Colts down to the Tigers’ 9-yard line. The Colts tried a 26-yard field goal, but it was no good with 1:28 left in the first half.

A short punt early in the third quarter gave Mount a short field. The Tigers scored six plays later and led 20-0.

Mount stopped West three-and-out and then blocked a punt to again have a short field, but this time the Colts forced a turnover on downs.

An interception on the next West play set up another Mount touchdown, and the Tigers tacked on two more touchdowns in the final four minutes of the third to force the running clock.

West is off this Friday and opens Rocky River Conference play Oct. 4 at Piedmont (2-3). The Panthers won at Montgomery Central Friday night 20-14.
