The Uwharrie Wampus Cats rallied late in Sunday’s home league game against the Queen City Corndogs.

Trailing 4-0 after six innings and 6-4 after eight, the Cats twice rallied to tie the game, including two ninth-inning runs.

However, the Corndogs  pushed a run across in the top of the 10th inning to earn a 7-6 win.

Ashton Wolfe earned the win in relief for the Corndogs, while Jared Brenner took the loss for Uwharrie (15-13, 8-11 SCBL).

In the bottom of the ninth, Ick Cirino drove a two-RBI single with one out to tie the game. Vespe tried to score on a Nick Morris fly out but was called out at home.

In the top of the 10th, three walks led to the Corndogs’ Gabe Simmons drawing an RBI bases-loaded walk to put the visitors up. Uwharrie went in order in the bottom of the inning.

Bryson Bebber led Uwharrie at the plate with three hits, while Cirino and Nick Morris each added two hits.

The Cats return home tonight to face the Lake Norman Copperheads (5-12 SCBL) at 7.
