Oakboro Police Department recently has had a significant turnover in officers, according to town officials.
In an interview Thursday, Oakboro Mayor Chris Huneycutt confirmed five of the town’s officers, three part-time and two full time, have put in their two-week resignation notices.
Huneycutt said the part-time officers only worked events such as the annual Fourth of July festival “so they can maintain their certifications in law enforcement.” He added the part-time officers were retired from other law enforcement agencies.
Regarding the full-time officers, Huneycutt said those officers “secured another (employment) opportunity that was more conducive to their work/life balance.”
No timeline was given as to when the resignations happened.
When reached by phone Friday, Oakboro Police Chief T.J. Smith had no comments.
Phone calls to Oakboro Town Administrator Georgia Harvey were not returned as of Friday afternoon.
