East Side Volunteer Fire Department posted shortly before noon on its Facebook page that the fire at Jay’s Seafood on Stony Gap Road in Albemarle was under control.
“Jay’s Seafood will be closed indefinitely. Please keep the Stallings family and all the employees. This restaurant means so much to the community and is tough to see,” the post continued.
Albemarle Mayor Ronnie Michael offered comments on the restaurant and fire.
“So many of us have shared meals and made lasting memories at Jay’s Seafood on Stony Gap Road,” Michael said. “The restaurant has been a staple of our community for decades. Our thoughts are with those who were impacted by this morning’s fire.”
The Stanly News & Press is continuing to gather information on how and when the fire began.
Jay’s Seafood has been in business for more than 50 years. An article from 2010 told a little about the history of Jay’s.
