The register of deeds office for Stanly has a new person in charge after last week’s meeting of the Stanly County Board of Commissioners.

Commissioners unanimously approved Jennie Helms to fill the rest of the term of Suzanne Lowder, who stepped down in October.

Helms started working at the office in 2016, and was promoted to assistant in 2017.

“I worked under Suzanne for seven years,” Helms said after being sworn in by Tyler Brummit, clerk to the commissioners.

Helms said Lowder recommended her to the executive board of the Republican Party, who voted to recommend Helms complete the remaining 11 months of the term.

“It’s such an important job,” Helms said. “I’m blessed and honored to be able to fulfill the remainder of Suzanne’s term. I look forward to continuing to serve the citizens of Stanly County.

“I love what I do and, in my opinion, we have the best staff. I am so excited to continue to get to work alongside them as they serve Stanly with the best service. I have the utmost respect for them.”
