Counselors on hand after Norwood child, family die in accident
Counselors are reportedly at one of Stanly County Schools’ facilities Thursday after a student died in an accident Wednesday.
A 12-year-old was one of three people who died in a multiple-vehicle accident on N.C. Highway 24-27 near Bethel School Road in Midland around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
“Cabarrus County deputies confirmed 49-year-old Nicolae Gheorghe died, as well as a woman and 12-year-old boy. Deputies also confirmed all three were in the same family,” according to WBTV-TV. A family friend told WBTV the family was in Charlotte Tuesday night for a wedding. They were said to be returning to their home in Norwood when the accident happened.
“It’s unknown if the driver of the van was suffering from a medical emergency or what would have maybe caused that vehicle to swerve,” said Capt. Kevin Klinglesmith, Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office told WSOC-TV. “We just don’t know yet.”
The Stanly News & Press has reached out to the Cabarrus Sheriff’s Office and Stanly County Schools for more details. WSOC has reported that counselors are at Norwood Elementary.
