Stanly Basketball Playoff Notebook: North Stanly and West Stanly

In games Tuesday night, the men’s and women’s basketball teams of North Stanly and West Stanly competed in the opening round of the state playoffs.

2A Playoffs

The West Stanly women, the No. 15 seed in the West Region, fell at home 53-42 Tuesday to No. 18 West Wilkes.

Raelee Furr was top scorer for the Colts (16-11) with 12 points.

Jamilyn Wilcox led West Wilkes (19-6) with 20 points, while Carson Ledford added 17.

Furr, Dani Moss and Carmen Bishop will graduate from this year’s Colts team which finished second in the conference and runner-up in the RRC tournament.

On the road Tuesday night, the West Stanly men, seeded 25th, fell at No. 7 Lake Norman Charter, 70-67.

Ethan Conner, Nathan Brown and Brack Morgan graduate from the Colts this season. West Stanly reached the Rocky River Conference tournament finals.

1A Playoffs

The North Stanly men, playing as the West’s No. 26 seed, fell at No. 7 North Rowan, 70-67.

Denerio Robinson hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift the Cavaliers (20-7) to the win.

T’Ziah Quarles led the Comets (14-12) with 24 points, while Koby Poole added 16 and Clay Hatley had 13.

North Stanly graduates three from this year’s team: Quarles, Chamar Watkins and Nathan Reyes.

On the women’s side, North Stanly, seeded No. 29, lost at No. 4 Holmes, 67-35.

Lexi Goode led the Comets (8-14) with 12 points, while Nyleiah White added nine.

Payton Landis is the lone graduating senior for the Comets.
