Care Cafe director speaks to Alpha Delta Kappa members
Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary organization for teachers, met Feb. 9 at West Albemarle Baptist Church.
President Barbara Klein called the meeting to order.
Vice President Joyce Whitley introduced guest speaker Sandra Nance, director of the Care Cafe in Albemarle.
Care Cafe is a group respite day program that has provided relief for caregivers since 2010. Nance explained the activities of a day at the cafe and played a game with the group that she plays with the cafe members.
Care Cafe is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. three days a week, though it hopes to add a day when volunteers are available.
Volunteers are needed to help with the activities.
For the monthly altruistic project, ADK members brought items to be used as prizes for bingo games played at the cafe.
Priscilla Perry recognized members Peggy Burris, Barbara Klein and Audrey Rigsbee. Each received a silver star keychain.
Elaine Bell was voted to become a member of Alpha Delta Kappa. The induction ceremony will be at the April meeting.
Guest speaker for the March 9 meeting at West Albemarle Baptist will be Kristin Young from the Ronald McDonald House in Charlotte. For the March altruistic project, members will bring sample size toiletries in baggies to be used by the families at the Ronald McDonald House.
