Stanly Arts Guild offers two scholarships

The Stanly Arts Guild will award two art scholarships in June.

Each of these scholarships will award $1,000, and winners will be announced in early June.

The first is the Patricia Blake Hartley Scholarship, established as a memorial to Patricia Blake Hartley, a long-time member and supporter of the Guild. The scholarship is awarded annually to a college student from Stanly County (preferably a junior or senior) who is currently enrolled as a visual arts or arts education major.

A check for $1,000, to be applied to tuition costs, will be paid directly to the college in attendance of the scholarship winner.

Application requirements must be completed and returned by 2 p. m. May 15 to be considered for this award.

Last year’s winner is Steven Hammond, son of Bob and Wendy Hammond, who is working toward a graphic arts degree.

A second scholarship is The Stanly Arts Guild Scholarship, and will be awarded to a high school senior planning to enroll, or a college freshman enrolled in a visual arts or arts education program, and may be a resident of Stanly or adjoining county (Anson, Cabarrus, Montgomery, Rowan or Union).

A total of $1,000 will be paid directly to the college in attendance of the scholarship winner. Application requirements must be completed and returned by 2 p.m. May 15 to be considered for this award.

Scholarship Chairwoman Carole Poplin said that applications for both of these awards are available at the Stanly Arts Guild, 330-C N. Second St., Albemarle. Applications are also available at www.stanlyartsguild.com and click the scholarship tab. Call or text Poplin at 704 438-4644 for more information.

The Stanly Arts Guild urges high school and college students to advance their career aspirations in art and to apply for these scholarships.
