The Stanly Community College (SCC) Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) chapter won first place in the Best Chapter Display contest at the business and leadership organization’s annual Fall Leadership Development Conference held Nov. 5-6 at the Wyndham Garden in Greensboro.

“Success Framed by SCC PBL” was the display theme, tied to the national Future Business Leaders of America-PBL (FBLA-PBL) “Success Starts Here” theme for the year.

The display featured the chapter’s membership brochure, photos of this past fall’s Club Fair and Fall Fest booths, copies of newspaper articles and framed pictures and information on 15 success stories of former SCC PBL members which included Jonathan Schulz, Fredia Owens, Kevin Misenheimer, Carolyn Walls Laudati, Kent Harkey, Courtney Seidenschmidt Furr, Amy Ray, Rick Gardner, Marty Ingram, Kathy Almond, Dexter Townsend, Cemita Huneycutt Gibbs, Martha Sue Hall, Sherry Barbee Potts and Lee Pickler.

The North Carolina (NC) PBL Professional Division-Foundation, Inc., presented the chapter with a $250 scholarship check with the award. Delegates at the conference participated in workshops and general sessions featuring motivational presentations by Dr. Pam Thompson, a Catawba College professor and recipient of the 2021 NCPBL Outstanding Adviser of the Year award, and Amy Ray, recipient of the national “Who’s Who in PBL” award for this past year.

Ray is a graduate of Stanly Community College and just received her master’s degree in Accounting from UNC-Greensboro. After serving as SCC PBL chapter president, she served as a state officer and as national treasurer. She is now an employee of the Core Tax Division of BDO USA, an international accounting network with offices in Charlotte.

SCC Delegate Toby Neal was one of five finalists in a PBL information contest won by Michael Glennon, president of the Campbell University chapter. Presiding over the conference was PBL State President Ivan Huffman from Western Carolina University. Vyktoria Iverson from SCC serves as state vice president of communications. Special guest at the conference was Magin Sanchez, PBL national executive vice president from the University of Virginia.

Phi Beta Lambda is the collegiate level of Future Business Leaders of America and emphasizes developing skills in business, leadership, and professionalism.
