Project Lazarus has remembrance events

With the theme, “Time to Remember, Time to Act,” Stanly County Project Lazarus held its 3rd Annual International Overdose Awareness Day events last week.
The Walk to Remember was held on Aug. 29 at Stanly Family YMCA park. Focusing on remembrance of loved ones lost to overdose, luminaria and purple remembrance flags lined the walking path.
Friends and families took the opportunity to connect with others experiencing loss and share memories of their loved one.
The International Overdose Awareness Day event was at Central United Methodist in Albemarle Aug. 31. It featured a remembrance slideshow of those lost to overdose.
Project Lazarus member organizations provided resources for substance use prevention, harm reduction, treatment and recovery.
Speaker Lisa Bowman shared her family’s story.
Malisha Ross, regional director of community operations (Stanly, Cabarrus, Union) for Partners Health Management, relayed mental health information.
“By coming together to remember those we have lost and the friends and families affected, we stand together to say that more can be done to end overdose in our community,” Stanly County Project Lazarus Coordinator Wendy Growcock said.
