New N.C. 3 baseball league delayed

Hopes for Stanly’s baseball players to play in a American Legion-type league this summer got slightly dimmed Friday.

According to the official Twitter page of the new N.C. 3 Baseball League, the start of the season has been delayed to at least June 15.

The tweet read: @NC3_Baseball said we would make an announcement on May 15 regarding if we are going to start on June 1st! With NC still in Phase one by Governor Cooper we will not be starting games on June 1! We now hope to be starting games on June 15 but will make announcement on June 1! Stanly baseball coaches last week had started the process of finding players for the new league, according to posts from the group’s official social media accounts.

The league would be comprised of teams from the American Legion’s Area III in North Carolina, including Stanly and others along with an Area IV team, Union County.
