Outsiders community group to host pre-Thanksgiving event

As residents get ready for the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays, one community outreach group looks to help people this weekend in Albemarle.

The Outsiders, an outreach ministry started by Matthew McNeil and Carlos Horne, will host a pre-Thanksgiving Dinner Outreach at 1 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Lundix Street and Arey Avenue in Albemarle.

McNeil said the Outsiders have been doing various ministries in the community to send a message of Jesus Christ as well as give back “because we believe that’s what we have been commissioned to do.”

Horne said the partnership came together because they “saw the need to get in our community and make (it) better.” He added “getting out of the norm” meant for the group to get out and see what the community’s needs are.

Horne said the Outsiders have worked to help people get food and clothing as well as fill out job applications.

“We are just trying to cause change…we want to feed our community and create an atmosphere of fellowship, not only because of the holidays…but we want to continue spread unity.”
