The Uwharrie Players will present “Honky Tonk Angels” Oct. 20-22 and Oct. 27-29 at the Albemarle Neighborhood Theatre, 219 E. North St., Albemarle.

When three gutsy girls from different backgrounds take charge of their hum-drum lives, they each hop the Greyhound headed for Nashville, Tennessee. Angela, Darlene and Sue Ellen band together and decide to follow their honky tonk dreams of becoming country and western singers.

This musical is under the artistic direction of Ashlyn Keller-Silver, who also choreographed the show. The music is directed by Frank Poolos.
Headlining the show are the “angels” themselves. Making her Uwharrie Players debut as Angela is Robin Rogers of Salisbury. Starring as Darlene is Madeline Medlin, who is no stranger to the Uwharrie Players stage having played Maddie in “The Hundred Dresses” and Margo in “Bright Star” earlier this year. Suzanne Holshouser joins the cast as Darlene after a 20-year hiatus from the organization, with her last performance being the 2002 production of “The Wizard of Oz.”

“Honky Tonk Angels” combines 30 classic country tunes, such as “Stand by Your Man,” “9 to 5,” “I Will Always Love You,” “Harper Valley PTA,” “These Boots are Made for Walkin’ ” and “Rocky Top.”

The show will be at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 27-28 and 3 p.m. Oct. 22 and Oct. 29. Visit theuwharrieplayers.org for ticket information.
