SCS Finance Committee votes to renew contracts

Stanly County Schools Finance Committee recommends the school board continue certain district operational contracts.

Committee Chairman Jeff Chance on Tuesday night made the motion to continue district operational contracts, such as drivers’ education, scholastic and athletic catastrophic accident insurance, workman’s compensation and audit services for one year. The board retains discretion for the continuing of the contracts.

SCS will soon start to receive bids for some contracts on a three- to five-year rotating basis.

SCS Finance Director Terry Dudney said he had been contacted by contractors regarding their contracts Tuesday.

Ryan McIntyre, committee member and vice chairman of the Board of Education, said he did not feel SCS would have a lot of issues with the contracts but expressed concerns about “messing with local contractors.”

Dudney said he agreed with McIntyre’s statement.

“I’m for keeping local dollars where they need to be,” Dudney said.
