New truck accessories, storage building company opens in Albemarle

A new business in Stanly County has opened with a unique blend of storage buildings and truck accessories.

Leonard Truck Accessories, at 201 N.C. Highway 24-27 in Albemarle, recently celebrated a grand opening with a ribbon cutting.

The store, which is No. 73 in the company, markets truck covers and accessories, carports, storage buildings, doghouses and other animal house, playhouses, truck trailers and many more products.

“We have enjoyed getting to know them and working with them the past few weeks,” Stanly County Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Sandy Selvy-Mullis said at the ribbon cutting regarding the new business.

Albemarle Mayor Ronnie Michael thanked the company for its investment in the city, having “taken an old vacant building here and remodeled into a beautiful new location.”

John Stirewalt, general manager of the Albemarle store, said Leonard has been in business since 1963, when Tyson Leonard started the business in central Georgia.

Originally, the company constructed the storage buildings one at a time and delivered them personally.

Eventually, Leonard moved operations to Winston-Salem, then later to the corporate location on Holly Springs Church Road in Mount Airy.

“We have the best portable, complete storage buildings, delivered to your home free of charge,” Stirewalt said.

Building sizes range from 4×8 feet to as large as 14×50, nearly the size of a single-wide mobile home.

Leonard also has wooden storage buildings for sale, along with chicken coops and dog houses, which Stirewalt said are their biggest sellers.

The Albemarle location will also be able to do window tinting.

Leonard Buildings and Truck Accessories is open 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
