Stanly resident becomes Canopy Realtor Association president

Stanly County resident Lee Allen was recently installed as the 2022 president of Canopy Realtor Association/Canopy MLS and Canopy Housing Foundation.

Canopy Realtor Association is a trade association that provides more than 16,000 realtors, in Mecklenburg and the Greater Charlotte region, with resources and services to conduct ethical, professional and profitable businesses.

Lee Allen has become president of Canopy Realtor Association/Canopy MLS and Canopy Housing Foundation.

Canopy MLS is the largest MLS between Northern Virginia and Atlanta, Georgia and has more than 21,000 subscribers in the Piedmont and mountain areas of North and South Carolina.
Canopy Realtor Association is also the parent entity for Canopy Real Estate Institute, the official real estate school of the association, and Canopy Housing Foundation, the association’s charitable arm that works to address unmet housing needs and advocates for fair and affordable housing standards and practices.

Allen, the 2022 Executive Committee, along with the 2022 Association, MLS and Foundation boards of directors, will serve together in the interests of the association, Canopy MLS and Canopy Housing Foundation.

Serving on the 2022 Executive Committee with Allen are: Tiffany Johannes, president-elect, RE/MAX Executive; Charisma Dockery-Smith, secretary, Savvy & Co. Real Estate; Geena Fie, treasurer, GW Estates and Homes, Inc.; David Kennedy, past president, T. R. Lawing Realty, Inc.; Anne Marie DeCatsye, ex-officio, CEO, Canopy Realtor Association/Canopy MLS.

In 2021, Allen served as president-elect of Canopy Realtor Association and Canopy MLS.

He is a native of Randolph County and is an agent with more than 17 years of experience. He serves as broker/owner of RE/MAX Executive.

As president, he will work closely with the Association/Canopy MLS Executive Committee, helping to plan and guide the business entities associated with the organization.

“I’m truly humbled by this new role and am honored to join a long line of realtor leadership that spans more than 100 years of work within the Greater Charlotte community and now, the mountains of North Carolina,” Allen said. “I look forward to working together, with inclusivity and diversity of opinions, being able to continue the work of our association and our goal of improving our communities, which includes addressing unmet housing needs, advocating for homeowners, realtors and the dream of homeownership.”

Allen’s service and volunteering with the Association and Canopy MLS spans from 2012 to the present, where he has served as a Canopy MLS board of director.

He has also served on a number of committees and taskforces, most notably as chairman of Canopy MLS Advisory Group (2011-2013), Real Estate and Building Industry Coalition (REBIC) Board of Governors in 2017 and 2021, the Nominating and Elections Committee (2014-2015) (2021), the Governance Task Force (2021) and the Canopy MLS Search Taskforce in 2013.

He is also affiliated with a number of professional, civic and community organizations. He has served as chairman of the Legislative Affairs Committee for Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, as board chairman of the Stanly Family YMCA and on the N.C. Thread Trail Board of Directors and Central Carolina Association of Realtors Legislative Committee.

He also served as a board member and chairman of Monarch Services of N.C. and is an active member of First Baptist Church of Albemarle, serving for a number of years in various positions.
He is also an active member of the Rotary Club and served on the board of Gray Stone Day School in Misenheimer.

His accomplishments also include recognition as Stanly County Small Business of the Year and RE/MAX Brokerage of the Year.

In his spare time, he keeps busy running marathons and has participated in more than 50 marathons as well as 13 Ironman competitions. He is married to wife Mary Burt and when he’s not busy selling real estate, volunteering and working out, enjoys spending time with his family.
