South Stanly cross-country men place second at regionals

Kernersville’s Ivey Redmon Sports Complex hosted last weekend’s NCHSAA 1A Midwest Regional cross-country competition.

The South Stanly men’s cross-country team qualified for the upcoming state championships placing second in the 1A Midwest Regionals this past weekend.

South placed second with 58 team points, 10 behind the regional champion, Bishop McGuinness.

Davis Wright was the top finisher for the Bulls placing fourth overall with a time of 17:27.82. Josh Huneycutt was second for South and fifth overall in 17:43.68, followed on his team by juniors Jayden Oliver (12th-18:37.15) and Ranfere Garcia (13th-18:38.00), and freshman Gavin Miller (25th-19:19.34).

Gray Stone also competed at the regionals placing sixth overall. Knights sophomore Wesley Rodgers led Gray Stone finishing 16th overall with a time of 18:52.19. AJ Flynn was second for Gray Stone and 21st overall in 19:05.00, followed by Jobey Swaringen (35th-19:49.40), Ashton Reidel (40th-20:13.03) and Andy McLeod (54th-21:03.94).
