Scouts to have yard sale to restore hut

The Scouts and leaders of Troop 82 in Albemarle are on a mission to clean up their Scout hut.
They plan to use a yard sale as the first step in bringing it back to glory.
Scouts will host a yard sale 7 a.m. to noon March 29 beside the hut at 407 S. First St., Albemarle, between TWS Surveying and Gerald’s Hair Salon.
The Troop 82 Scout Hut was built in Albemarle’s Hearne Park in the 1940s by Chuck Moorehead, who was the Scoutmaster. The troop was given the number 82 because Moorehead was in the 82nd Airborne.
“There is a lot of history in this building and the troop. We would like to make the hut our home again, but there are many, many repairs needed,” said Carlos Talero, assistant scoutmaster. “We will use proceeds from the yard sale and other fundraisers to do repairs.”
Anyone wishing to donate items for the sale or to the troop on its mission to restore the building can contact Talero at 704-888-1945.
Troop 82 meets at 7 p.m. Thursdays in the basement of the First Baptist Church. 202 N. Second St., Albemarle.
For anyone looking to join an active Boy Scout troop, show up at a meeting or call Scoutmaster Trevor Davis 704-961-2756 or Assistant Scoutmaster Carlos Talero 704-888-1945.
