Crook Motor Company forms partnership, becomes Freightliner dealer

Crook Motor Company is partnering with Excel Truck Group to further expand its new truck sales, parts and service business by becoming a full-line Freightliner dealership.

Crook Motor Company President Richard Almond announced recently that Excel Truck Group became an equity partner of the business effective April 2021.

“We’re looking forward to continuing our strong legacy of great service,” Almond said. “Through this partnership, we will provide our loyal customers with the outstanding service they have come to expect, and we will offer a broader array of trucks and parts.”

Crook Motor Company was founded in 1945 by C.B. Crook in Albemarle. C.B. Crook Jr. came on board in 1972 and expanded the business into commercial trucks, developing a reputation of selling high-quality equipment and providing outstanding service to the trucking community.

Crook Motor Company became a Western Star dealer in 1997. Crook Jr. retired in 1999 and sold the business to four employees within the company.

Almond remains as president of Crook Motor Company.

Crook Motor Company has grown into one of the nation’s largest used truck and trailer dealers.

“We have always maintained our focus on what is most important, the people in this industry – our customers and our employees.  Our outstanding employees enable us to take great care of our customers,” said Almond.

Excel Truck Group was started by Frank Ellett in 1981 and has Freightliner, Mack, Western Star, Kalmar, Wabash National, Mac Trailer and other franchises operating in nine locations in Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

“Partnering with Crook Motor Company is a great fit, both culturally and geographically, for Excel,” said Excel President Russ Ellett. “We both understand the importance of providing great customer service and looking after our employees.  The Excel Team is extremely excited about this partnership.”
