UPDATE: Police identify suspect in Albemarle homicide

The Albemarle Police Department has identified 47-year-old Duane Lamont Perry, of Albemarle, as the deceased in a homicide that occurred on Friday in the 500 block of Elizabeth Avenue.

Officers were called to the area at approximately 1 a.m. for a well-being check. Upon arrival, officers found Perry deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Investigation revealed Perry was a visitor and not a resident at the unit where the incident occurred.

Following an investigation, Albemarle Police have issued warrants for Otis Eugene Burns for first degree murder, possession of a firearm by felon and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling.

Burns, 49, is a 5-foot-5 Black male. He weighs 145 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes.

This is the first homicide to occur in Albemarle since September 2023.
