Locust to use county grant for new equipment

Locust City Council has unanimously approved acceptance of a Stanly County grant for Parks and Recreation in the amount of $10,000 toward replacement of equipment for the department’s movie nights.

“This will replace outdated equipment with a new screen and new sound system … it will be an all-in-one drive-in movie setup,” Locust City Manager Cesar Correa said Thursday night at the city council’s meeting.

The grant will reduce the city’s expenditures for the new system to $14,235.

“Under the grant agreement, we (City of Locust) will pay the entire cost of $24,235 up front, then we will be reimbursed by the county for the $10,000 grant amount,” Correa explained.

“This is a great way to give back to the people of Locust who come out to these events,” added Councilman Harry Fletcher. “The old equipment needs replacing anyway, so this is the way to do it.”
