Gray Stone basketball teams split openers with Carolina International

Basketball season for Gray Stone Day School opened Friday night with a home non-conference doubleheader againts Carolina International.

Both Gray Stone teams return to the court Dec. 3 at home against Union Academy.

Known in recent years for stifling defense, the Knights continued the trend Friday night in a blowout win over the Comets.

Secorra Medley led Gray Stone with 22 points while Danielle Werts added 12 points.

The Knights outscored Carolina International (0-4) 20-0 in the first quarter and 14-1 in the second to lead 34-1 at halftime.

Gray Stone outscored the Comets 25-2 in the second half including no points in the fourth period.

The Knights fell behind in the first half but outscored the visiting Comets in the second half in a 10-point loss to open the season.

David Almond led the Knights with 13 points while Marshall Overcash added 10 points and Judson Bullard scored eight.

Kimman Power led four in double figures for Carolina International (5-1) with 20 points. Charlie Walker added 17 points while Kyle Beveridge and Jarius Kelly scored 10 points each.
