Wampus Cats resume home stand Thursday

Following a 1-0 win over the Carolina Disco Turkeys on Memorial Day, which saw more than 700 fans in attendance at Don Montgomery Park, the Uwharrie Wampus Cats are set to host three more home games Thursday through Saturday.

Upcoming home games:

Thursday, 6:30 p.m. vs. Red Springs Air Force

Friday, 6:30 p.m. vs. Carolina Disco Turkeys

Saturday, 6:30 p.m. vs. Greensboro Yard Goats

About the opponents: The Red Springs Air Force, formerly the Red Springs Wolves, are a collegiate wood-bat team and are members of the Carolina Collegiate League. Most of the Air Force’s roster is made up of players from the Charlotte area.

The Disco Turkeys, an independent collegiate team, are a familiar rival already for the Wampus Cats. Several of their players are current or former NCAA Division 1 players.

The Yard Goats are one of the best semi-pro teams in the Southeast and feature a handful of former MLB Draft picks and former pros on their roster.

Former Miss Stanly to perform anthem Friday: 2022 Miss Stanly Kate White, a North Stanly graduate, will sing the national anthem at Friday’s Wampus Cats game. White is currently serving as Miss Thomasville and will be competing for the title of Miss North Carolina this June. White will be on hand to sign autographs and greet fans following her performance.

Monday’s win: In the opener, the Wampus Cats scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the third inning when Adam Wilkerson drove in Bryce Dreher with a two-out single. Former South Stanly standout pitcher Sawyer Smith got the win.
