Stanly Arts Guild reveals scholarship opportunities

The Stanly Arts Guild has announced the offer of two art $1,000 scholarships to be awarded in June.

Winners will be announced at the June meeting of the Guild.

The first is the Patricia Blake Hartley Scholarship, established as a memorial to a long-time member and supporter of the Guild. The scholarship is awarded annually to a college student from Stanly County (preferably a junior or senior) who is enrolled as a visual arts or arts education major.

A check for $1,000, to be applied to tuition costs, will be paid directly to the college in attendance of the scholarship winner. Application requirements must be completed and returned by 2 p.m. May 25 to be considered for this award.

A second scholarship is The Stanly Arts Guild Scholarship, awarded to a high school senior planning to enroll, or a college freshman enrolled, in a visual arts or arts education program. The student must be a resident of Stanly or adjoining county (Anson, Cabarrus, Montgomery, Rowan or Union). A total of $1,000 will be paid directly to the college in attendance of the scholarship winner.

Carole Poplin, scholarship coordinator, said that applications for both of these awards may be obtained at Stanly Arts Guild, 330 N. Second St., Albemarle, or you may call or text Poplin directly at 704 438-4644 for an application.
