One upcoming event at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center will celebrate Tinseltown and an anniversary while raising money to support young survivors of abuse.

With the theme “Hooray For Hollywood,” the Stanly Health Foundation and the Butterfly House will present the 10th annual “Stanly County Dancing With the Stars” at 7 p.m. Sept. 10.

The Butterfly House, a child advocacy center, started the event in 2012, and has raised more than $879,000 in the event’s first nine years.

Teams of dancers raise money for the Butterfly House through charity events while preparing a dance routine for the show.

Christian Payne, who has worked with the Uwharrie Players and The Talent Company, is producing the show this year. Payne and Laura Almond are planning the choreography for the opening number.

Kim McGowen, the annual giving officer for the foundation, said the event has continued for 10 years because “people have a heart for children…people are tied to the cause. The Butterfly House provides an important service. It is such an important organization. What they do means so much to so many.”

This year’s dance teams are:

• Certified nurse midwife and former Butterfly House employee Rebecca Huneycutt and her partner, West Stanly High School special education teacher Dan Donaghue;
• Superior Hair Salon stylist Sabrina Shaw and her partner, certified personal trainer Johnnie Little;
• Uwharrie Bank account executive Hannah Domenech and her partner, Uwharrie traveling CSR Manuel Ubaldo;
• Kelly Earley, who played four sports in high school and works for an orthodontist in Harrisburg, and her partner, Frog Pond Performance owner Benjie Burris;
• Central Elementary assistant principal Kelly Hill and her partner, Frog Pond Performance manager and auto tech Cody Burris;
• Stanly County School Board member Carla Poplin and her partner, Nehemiah Project founder Paul Peters;
• Stanly Community College cosmetology teacher Tammy Coble and her partner, Divine Real Estate employee Amanda Wooten;
• Stanly County Schools safety director Jennifer Flowe and her partner, Albemarle Police Department officer Cameron Harrington;
• Richfield Elementary PTO President Monica Faust and her partner, retired Air Force veteran Don Pettit;
• Perfecting Life Global Ministries senior pastors Karissa and Brian Johnson.
