Commissioner cited for 62 mph in 35 mph zone
The current chairman of the Stanly County Board of Commissioners was ticketed for driving 62 miles per hour in a 35 mph zone.
Commission Chairman Joseph Burleson was cited June 15 at 4:55 p.m. by Norwood police. Burleson was found exceeding the speed limit by 27 mph on U.S. Highway 52 South near Lanier Road, records show.
Burleson’s court date is scheduled for July 19.
He is serving the final year of a four-year term as county commissioner. Burleson’s re-election campaign ended with a defeat in the Republican primary by political newcomer Tommy Jordan.
