Departments respond to fire, rescue 2 individuals

East Side Volunteer Fire Department announced a response to a fire via Facebook Monday.
Badin, East Side, Albemarle Fire E111, Air Guard Fire, New London and Richfield departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Morrow Mountain Road Monday afternoon with occupants inside.
“The additional fire units were dispatched due to the potential rescue and low hydrant pressure from the earlier water main break. A working fire was called on arrival of U648 with heavy fire on a carport. Smoke was present in the structure,” the post stated.
“2 convalescent occupants were removed by Badin member Doug Culp and East Side member William Efird prior to the arrival of fire units without injury,” it continued. “They were evaluated by Stanly EMS. Albemarle Fire initiated an attack on the fire and it was quickly brought under control. The fire is being investigated by the Stanly Co. Fire Marshal. Stanly Sheriff’s office assisted with traffic control. This incident had much potential for loss of life. Early detection by a neighbor and the quick response and action by responding units worked to prevent it today.”
