Flood advisory issued in Stanly County

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for an area including Stanly County.

The NWS says minor flooding created by excessive rainfall is expected in Anson, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Scotland and Stanly until 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

This is expected to impact rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

At 2:27 p.m., Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 0.5 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Fayetteville, Laurinburg, Albemarle, Southern Pines, Rockingham, Wadesboro, Raeford, Troy, Carthage, Fort Bragg, Badin Lake, Pinehurst, Hamlet, Aberdeen, Biscoe, Ansonville, Hoffman, Antioch, Pope AFB and Plyler.
