Albemarle Fire Department responds to fire at American Fiber

The Albemarle Fire Department responded to a fire at Albemarle Fiber and Finishing Monday night, according to an AFD press release.

Units arrived on the scene to find an alarm sounding and a smell of smoke in the vicinity. Firefighters entered the building to find fire on the second floor of the structure. The fire was brought under control soon after it was located.

Ten Albemarle firefighters responded to the call along with 14 off-duty firefighters.

The units that responded included Station 24, Station 28, Station 34, Station 64, Station 27, Albemarle Police, Stanly County EMS, Stanly County EMA, City of Albemarle Public Utilities and Duke Power. Bethany Volunteer Fire Department (Station 28) and N.C. Air National Guard (Station 27) also responded to the scene.

American Fiber and Finishing Operations Manager Shane Phillips said no people were injured and no machines were damaged.

The damage to the structure was estimated at $50,000, while damage to the contents was estimated at $20,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Fire Marshal Michael Roark.

New London (Station 24), Endy (Station 34) and East Side (Station 64) fire departments all responded to the city of Albemarle in order to cover the stations that responded to the fire.
