The Caring Sisters of Stanly County, founded by Evangelist Vanessa Chambers and including members Lynette Huntley, Mary Pergee and Evangelist Mary Jane Smith, honored Antoinette Peoples on Oct. 12 at Shiloh Baptist Church in New London.

The Caring Sisters of Stanly County is designed to help ladies who are going through breast cancer or sickness when they may need help going to the doctor, grocery shopping or with house cleaning.
“God has been blessing us to do what we need to do. You may contact any of these ladies if you know of someone who needs help,” Chambers said.
Peoples is battling cancer for a second time and has been unable to work due to her illness.
“Even though she is very sick she still tries to make her way to church when she can,” Chambers said. “Sister Peoples really loves the Lord and she loves people, especially the elderly.
“We would like to commend everyone who came out, sent their donations, praying for her and whatever you do for her,” Chambers added. “She appreciates all of it. This is what Christians are supposed to do when someone is in need — help them. This was the time for all churches, family and friends to show her how much they really love her.”
Chambers said she did not know Peoples worked with the Badin Fire Department until she heard the sirens going off and the fire engine was pulling up at the church to support her.
“That was so wonderful for them to do that,” Chambers said. “That brought tears to my eyes.”
If anyone wishes to continue to donate to Peoples, they can contact Chambers or mail Peoples at PO Box 249, Badin, NC 28009.
“Again, we are so thankful that we had a great turn out and it was truly blessed,” Chambers said. “Happy Cancer Free to all survivors of breast cancer for Breast Awareness Month and please don’t forget to do self exams and get your mammogram yearly.”
