Concert Band to present ‘Elements in Music’

The Stanly County Concert Band is excited to present “Elements in Music” at 7 p.m. Nov. 7 at the Stanly County Agri-Civic Center.
The concert is a collection of music that is inspired by the elements of earth, wind, fire and water. There is no cost for admission.
The band is performing several pieces from the Concert Band repertoire, including “In A Gentle Rain,” “Incandescent Sky,” “In Variations on Barnacle Bill, the Sailor,” “Land of the Healing Waters,” “Fuego del Alma,” “Earth, Wind and Fire in Concert,” “Cloudscapes,” “The Firebird (Excerpts)” and “All the Earth and Air.”
Featured soloist Bob Foreman is a seasoned performer. Upon graduating from high school, Foreman attended SUNY Potsdam, Crane School of Music, and received his BM in Music Education, in addition his Master’s in Brass Performance from Ithaca College.
Foreman spent 34 years teaching Instrumental and Vocal Music in Central New York area schools.
As a freelance trombonist and member of Local 78 of AFM, Foreman performed in a diverse number of ensembles, which included the New York State Fair Big Band, the Cayugans Big Band, Destination Blues Band, Central New York Music Educators Wind Ensemble, various brass quartets, Bones East Trombone Ensemble, and Auburn Chamber Orchestra.
Foreman and his wife moved to Salisbury in 2001. Foreman continued to perform trombone with the Greensboro Philharmonic, Greensboro Concert Band, Fayetteville Orchestra, Salisbury Orchestra, UNC Trombone Ensemble, Catawba Brass Quintet, Charlotte Jazz Orchestra and subbing with the Rowan All Star Big Band.
As a union musician, he performed with numerous artists, which included Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Bernadette Peters, various Motown artists and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
An additional performance this year is at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 at Central United Methodist Church.
Attendees are asked to bring a food item for the Stanly Community Christian Ministry’s Food Pantry.
