Pfeiffer loses to Methodist in three sets

The Pfeiffer volleyball team could not overcome an opposing Monarchs offense Tuesday on the road losing to Methodist in three sets (20-25, 20-25, 17-25).
The loss dropped Pfeiffer’s record to 3-11 overall and 0-5 in USA South action.
Haedyn McGrath finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Falcons offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .278. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Gabby Edwards had 13 and Kylee Mayberry had 10. From the front row, Madison Tate contributed five blocks.
Karmen Rion had a team-high one ace in the loss.
Haedyn McGrath had a team-high eight kills for Pfeiffer.
Pfeiffer got a team-high 13 digs from Gabby Edwards.
Pfeiffer attackers were helped by a team-high 13 assists from Kylee Mayberry.
The Falcons found themselves in an early hole, losing the first set 25-20. Pfeiffer trailed by as many as six points as Methodist grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was knotted up three times before the Monarchs took control.
Pfeiffer dropped set two 25-20, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. Methodist grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was knotted up nine times before the Monarchs took over in the second half of the stanza.
Pfeiffer couldn’t prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Falcons fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before losing the set 25-17.
Pfeiffer will return to The Village to host a USA South tri-match against Southern Virginia and Meredith on Oct. 5.
