The Stanly Arts Guild will host its second annual photography exhibit and competition Feb. 19 through March 9.

After 11 years at West Main Street, this will be the first major event at the guild’s new home of Falling Rivers Gallery at 330-C N. Second St., Albemarle.

The grand opening is also upcoming in February, though a specific date has not been announced.

Hours will be noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The theme of this year’s show is “Scenic America” and all entries must reflect the beauty of this country. Artists must be at least 18 to enter, and amateurs are welcome to enter. Photography must not have been shown in any previous Stanly Arts Guild exhibit.

Photographs must be properly framed and wired ready to hang. No sawtooth hangers will be accepted and size and weight limits will apply.

Acceptable work includes altered and unaltered work and color or black and white.

If the entries exceed space, the show may be juried by the judge.

The total amount of ribbon and cash awards is $1,500 consisting of first- , second- and third-place, four cash honorable mentions and a Member’s Choice Award.

Photography should be hand delivered.

The fee for Stanly Arts Guild members is $30 for up to two pieces and $10 for one additional piece.

The fee of non-members is $40 for up to two pieces and $15 for one additional piece.

Delivery dates are noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 15 and noon to 4 p.m. Feb. 16.

The opening will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 19. The exhibit will conclude with an open reception and art pickup from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 9.

The Stanly Arts Guild will have Michael “Hutch” Hutchinson from Mint Hill as the judge. It was during an award-winning career in advertising that he took up photography, first in film, then digital.

In the past few years he has won numerous local and regional awards. He is a member of the Light Factory and holds the title of co-president for Mint Hill Arts. He is one of the founders of the artist group N-Terpret.
